Ive been a member of Plastic Pollution Coalition for over ten years. It was started by Dianna Cohen who is an artist who used plastic in her artwork. Thinking it was ephemeral because it broke down in smaller pieces as it ages. Later she realizes it does not decompose it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces. All the plastic ever made is still here. It is wreaking havoc on the environment, our health and the health of wildlife. Thank you for speaking up. .

Thank you Bill, for this vital analysis

Microplastic contamination is pandemic and an often overlooked health risk. You remind me that even as you lead nationally we can help locally.

Well said. Personally (M Yland) I think that atmospheric microplastics are even more of a concern, as they are impossible to avoid.

Thanks for covering this Bill.

Do you think any incentives could be created for investigative studies on these issues? There’s surely a lot more to learn if we had economic reasons to study issues impacting Americans health.

Thanks again for bringing awareness to this problem. I actually could not read all of your article because it was so disturbing. I have already committed to my cast iron pan and eliminating all plastic from my garden. Just like glyphosate: it's everywhere. I often think back to my childhood where everything was metal or glass. Things could be re-used. And... my dad putting DDT in his socks to repel chiggers! Maybe not the good old days!

It's true, plastic particles are everywhere, including the water we drink and bathe in. About twenty years ago my husband and I started to become very aware of how much plastic we were using in our lives, and naturally started eliminating any toxic cookware, even plastic handled stirring spoons. Then we moved onto clothing. The only plastic left in our wardrobes is a pair of rubber boots each, and a raincoat, along with the soles of various other footwear. While we walk barefoot at home, shoes are essential for going out, but we'd still like to find a good alternative, even if we have to design/make the natural shoes ourselves.
